The Blandy, as the last of the families linked to the origin of Madeira wine trade who still manage the family business founded by their ancestors, are unique in the business of Madeira wines.
The Blandy’s Madeira, managed and owned by the same family for 200 years independent and seven generations, it prevails totally dedicated to the preservation of the production traditions of Madeira wine.
The fact that the year was very rainy and cooler made the 2002 vintage was one of the hardest, requiring a rigorous selection of grapes.
These weather conditions have made the ripening of the grapes was a slower late yielding and low production, which was generally excellent quality.
The grapes of better quality Bual caste provide predominantly the Belfry region and Calheta. Because of the weather conditions that occurred during the maturation process, were grapes from vineyards located in lower elevations, the (natural protection) worth of Calheta which were used to produce this wine.
