The Blandy, as the last of the families linked to the origin of Madeira wine trade who still manage the family business founded by their ancestors, are unique in the business of Madeira wine, maintaining a tradition dating back to 1811. The selection of bottle racks (Vintages) of family is second to none, and the room where the vanity case are stored, which contains wines that recede until the seventeenth century, was once described as a “wine cathedral”. The Blandy’s Madeira, managed and owned by the same family for 200 years independent and seven generations, it prevails totally dedicated to the preservation of the production traditions of Madeira wine.
CASTE
The Malvasia or Malmsey, is a variety that comes mainly from St. George region, situated on the northern slopes of the island and that the family has established long-standing agreements with more than 26 producers. Possibly the most famous of the white grapes, is rich in sugars and acidity – a perfect match for this rich style of Madeira wine.
TASTING NOTES
“After several vintages medians, we are pleased to note that we report that 1988 was a year of excellence and is seen as one of the best years of the decade for the wines of Madeira. Unlike mainland Portugal and other European demarcated regions, Madeira benefited in 1988 from a favorable climate for vine growing, and although the months of June and July have submitted temperatures below normal for the time, the delay of vintage resulted in a high quality production with high yield and maturity. “
