On April 23, 2013, Fonseca announced its decision to declare 2011 as vintage year, releasing the classic Fonseca Vintage Port wine. Here are the reviews of this wine and its wine year:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Adrian Bridge, Managing Director:<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.3;\">&#8220;The excellent ripening conditions that culminated in the 2011 vintage produced classic vintage Port wines with great balance in which the Fonseca 2011 is no exception. The dense black fruit that is distinctive of Fonseca vintages, is evident but, with a lot of complexity and finesse. &#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">David Guimaraens, Winemaker:<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.3;\">&#8220;The time of maturation was warm and dry but the vines had at their disposal abundant underground reserves of water accumulated during the rainy spring. Thus, the vines have never been under water stress and produced a perfectly ripe harvest, resulting in remarkably balanced wines and complete . The 2011 Fonseca fruit quality is exceptional and very well integrated tannins that give the wine volume and structure. &#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Lot Vintage Fonseca is composed of the best wines from three properties: the Quinta do Cruzeiro in the valley of Pinhao, a property that contributes to the Fonseca vintages since 1912; Quinta do Panascal, main farm Fonseca, and finally, Quinta de Santo Ant\u00f3nio.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><em>NOTES OF THE YEAR<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><em><span style=\"line-height: 1.3;\">The beginning of the year was marked by cold and rain. For five months, from November to April, nearly 500 millimeters of rain fell in the sprocket in the heart of Cima Corgo. The rain in the winter and spring was put back because the fundamental depleted underground water reserves that allowed face a very dry time of maturity.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><em>The sprouting occurred, as expected, by the third week-end of March and the hot and humid conditions in April encouraged vigorous growth. From 1 May to 21 August hot and dry weather settled, with a short heatwave in late June.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><em>However abundant water in the soil allowed the formation of clusters and a perfect balanced ripening of the grapes. An absolutely timely downpour on 21 August and 1 September led to the refinement of the harvest. The first property of Fonseca to start the harvest was the Quinta do Panascal the T\u00e1vora Valley, with the first grapes to be harvested on 13 September.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,verdana,helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><em>Quinta do Cruzeiro in Pinhao valley the beginning was the 15 September. In Santo Ant\u00f3nio Thursday, the farm in the valley of Pinhao, the harvest began ten days later, on 25 September.
