The sprouting occurred under very dry conditions near the third week of March, having pursued a very welcome rain in April and early May. The vines in late May had low vigor due to the combination of cooler spring than normal and extremely dry winter.

The temperatures during the growing season were very balanced, no heat waves, just with one exception on 24 and 25 June, the St. John scald. The vines have maintained their force below normal, with the berries and bunches more smaller than normal resulted in a low-income year.

In mid-August, the hedges covering the grapes had become incredibly healthy, allowing the grapes continue to ripen during the wine year, which rarely happens. The harvest at Quinta da Roêda began September 18 and with the exception of some rain on 24 September, the rest of the harvest take place under perfect conditions.

Tasting Notes

Dense ruby almost black core surrounded by a red-purple rim. The nose is faithful to Roêda style with a fruity delicious combined with the resinous musk scent of wild herbs and rock rose. However, the year with its purity and elegance, put this wine in elegant and finely made subtle spectrum of Roêda. Mixed with the typical fruit compote are the most fresh notes and apricot, raspberry flavor being raised by a living acidity and supported by a dense web of vigorous tannins. Slightly more restrained and outlined some of the recent vintages Roêda, this wine shows, however, the mature fruity seductive that is the hallmark of this historic property.

“The Croft Quinta da Roeda 2012 has a bouquet with aroma of dark chocolate you can almost compare to that hug your favorite aunt. It even seems that engages the senses. The palate is soft at first, very velvety, with good persistence, perhaps more complex than I anticipated, especially with regard to end structured with blueberries and five Chinese spices that lingers in the mouth. This is one of the best releases of Taylor Fladgate 2012 and comes highly recommended. “

Croft is one of the most distinguished brands of all Port wine producing houses.

Founded in 1588, it is the oldest operating company in the area and is particularly known for its Vintage Port wines, for its range of Reserve Port wines aged in wood and also for its Tawnies, styles that last through time thanks to the skill and experience that have been passed down from generation to generation.

However, despite its rich heritage and history spanning over four centuries, it has never been limited by its tradition.
