The terroir:
\nWhen it comes to the secret of the perfect ingredients for a wine, we can boil it down to a few essential elements – the right soil and climate (a combination defined in wine circles as ‘terroir’), and careful and responsible handling by the winegrower.<\/p>\n

The Algarve is located in a natural amphitheater, protected from the north winds by the Monchique mountains, resulting in a unique climate characterized by an average of more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year.<\/p>\n

The soil, mostly limestone and clay, forces the vines to dig deeper into the soil, which is exactly what is needed to grow grapes in this type of terroir.<\/p>\n

Our proximity to the Atlantic Ocean ensures that, even on the hottest summer days, there is always a fresh breeze, which provides natural ventilation and temperature control in the vineyards.<\/p>\n

In combination with green pruning, winegrowers can define exactly which way a particular wine should go.<\/p>\n

The degree of green pruning will maximize sun exposure, resulting in opulent, fruity wines, while maximizing shade and fresh air circulation will result in fresher, more subtle wines.<\/p>\n
