Fresh and concentrated flavors of raspberry jam with herbal nuances. Luscious mouth, fat and full of the flavors chocolate, prune and licorice. Firm tannins, good volume and soft, velvety texture. Final wonderfully long.
ROGER VOSS
WINE ENTHUSIAST
FEBRUARY 2001
“Delicious and fragrant wine with exotic flavors of black plums, violets and cinnamon. The fruit is firmly based on solid tannins and seem to have potential for average aging period, say for about 10 to 15 years.”
NOTES OF THE YEAR
The winter of 1995 was characterized by very heavy rain, but temperatures were higher than normal and can be said to be experienced if not cold weather. February was a dry month and the beginning of spring was unusually warm for the season. The cold weather arrived in late April and in the higher regions of Douro, there was severe damage caused by frost. However, in May, the conditions for flowering eventually almost perfect.
The two features to stand out from the vintage 1995 were exceptionally high levels of sugar and a very bountiful harvest. The color extraction was excellent and fermentations in mills have always taken a long time.
