Also known as bitter almond or simply bitter ” Amarguinha” in Portuguese, or “Licor de amendoa amarga”, it is a sweet alcoholic beverage originating in Portugal, specifically the Algarve region, and is one of the country’s most famous liqueurs.
To avoid waste, this drink was created, exploring and capitalizing on the qualities of bitter almonds, which, due to their bitter taste, were much less consumed than sweet almonds.
Crushed, macerated, and distilled, this type of almond transforms into the thick, sweet drink that every Portuguese knows and requests after a good meal.
Serve chilled
