LBV – Late bottled vintage

LBV was developed as a high quality alternative to Vintage Port. The idea was to create a more accessible wine for immediate consumption, which could be drunk on a daily basis without having to consume the entire bottle immediately. It was created in 1970 by the current president of Taylors, Alistair Robertson.

Although many other houses now offer this wonderful style of wine, Taylor’s LBV, the Late Bottled Vintage, continues to be the reference port in this category, the first choice of the expert connoisseur of port wine.

The producer:

Created more than 300 years ago, in 1692, Taylor’s is one of the oldest Port wine houses to which it is dedicated exclusively, especially and in its best style.

Taylors is an independent company where family members play leadership roles in their areas of activity. The company’s long and continuous family tradition has allowed continuity and clarity of mission, essential attributes of any great Port wine producer.

It has honed the skills and knowledge needed to produce the best Ports, constantly refined in light of the experience that is passed down from generation to generation.

Taylors is respected as a producer of wood-aged Ports and holds one of the largest reserves of rare cask-aged wines, of which the distinguished aged Tawny Ports stand out.

The house is also known as the creator of LBV (Late Bottled Vintage), a style that the company pioneered and of which it continues to be the main producer.

Consecutive generations, with their experience, have been committed to developing the knowledge and ability to produce increasingly better Port wines.

Based in Porto and in the Douro region, the company is involved in all phases of Port wine production, from planting the vineyard and growing the grapes to the elaboration, aging and bottling of the wine batches.
